Thong summit thai & sushi
About This Spot
Stepping into Thong Summit Thai & Sushi, nestled just off West Jefferson’s main street, feels like discovering a quiet, unassuming gem in the heart of the mountains. The atmosphere is easygoing and intimate, with a modest seating arrangement that encourages a relaxed, unhurried meal. The hum of friendly conversations blends effortlessly with the gentle rhythm of the kitchen, where fresh ingredients come alive through thoughtful preparation.
The pace here suits both lingering dinners and a comfortable midweek dinner out. Whether you’re settling in after a day of exploring or simply seeking a clean, welcoming spot, there’s a warmth to the space that’s underscored by the attentive service and the occasional buzz of takeout orders spilling in by phone. It’s not a bustling, high-energy scene—more a place where you can appreciate the quiet moments shared over a carefully crafted plate.
The culinary journey mirrors this balance between Thai zest and Japanese precision. The menu is an inviting tribute to both traditions, where bright, fragrant flavors meet the clean, artful presentation of sushi. Imagine savoring the tang of Thai basil-infused rice or the gentle heat of a curry that’s rich with coconut cream, each bite offering a nuanced contrast to the delicate, fresh slices resting atop hand-rolled sushi. Drinks like the Thai iced tea add a sweet, cooling counterpoint, making each sip a small celebration of comfort and indulgence.
What sets Thong Summit apart is its thoughtful approach to blending cultures without losing the character of either. It feels rooted in West Jefferson’s easy mountain lifestyle—where good food is a reward for a day well spent—and yet it offers something refreshingly different. Visitors often find themselves surprised by the harmony of flavors, and locals appreciate having a reliable, cozy spot that doesn’t try too hard but delivers steadily.
In many ways, the experience here is one of quiet discovery, a reminder that even in a small mountain town, a genuine connection to great food and a welcoming atmosphere can feel like a warm, unexpected invitation.

A nice little restaurant right off the main street of West Jefferson. We were greeted with a smile and hello. Service was great and relatively fast, granted there were few people in the restaurant, but you could hear they were taking orders over the phone. The food was fresh, delicious, and presented nicely! Not a lot of parking nor seating inside, but a wonderful place to enjoy a good meal. Try it out.

We love this place! At first we thought "Sushi in the mountains? Nah." But we were pleasantly surprised! Now it's our go-to Wednesday night out option! Their Thai basil fried rice is to die for!

Me and my husband ate here while staying in the area , service was very good and the food was good , my husband got the yellow curry and I got some sushi which wasn't bad it tasted good just was alittle different then the sushi I've had before. Would recommend this place though!

After a long day of driving and most eateries closing at 8 in West Jefferson, we were very grateful for Thong Summit being able to serve us a hot and fresh dinner with refreshing Thai teas at 8 pm. Pictured is the signature fire hot fried chicken. It was more savory with some kick and very delicious. Only hiccup - Our shu mai initially came out cold in the middle but they kindly refired.

This place is more of a sushi place than it is a Thai place. I made the mistake of getting Thai food. Although the curry is phenomenal, but I don’t find the idea of grilled chicken sitting on top of the curry appetizing. It should be properly marinated into the curry. But that being said their sushi rolls look phenomenal. I’ll definitely go back and try.

I was skeptical. Thai food in Ashe County??? Then the appetizers came and I knew I had been steered properly. So flavorful and crispy. The red curry with grilled chicken was my main course. Perfect amount of spice, but I kept burning my tongue from impatience getting it in my mouth. Good enough that I decided desert should be a sushi roll, so I could try a little of everything. Incredible dynamite roll. Should have taken more pictures for you guys.

What a surprise to find quality sushi in Ashe County. The building is old but the Bantam Chef was a Ashe County staple. Crab Rangoons were not the standard frozen you find at 90% of asian restaurants. I wish we would've ordered double because 4 wasn't enough. We had the Philly roll, Spicy Shrimp roll and the Jefferson roll. All were great. Save room for the desserts. My wife ordered the Fried Banana Egg rolls and liked it but the star dessert was definitely the Fried Cheesecake. Like eating a big funnel cake stuffed with a huge piece of cheesecake .

This is the CUTEST little sushi place I have ever seen. The atmosphere felt upscale and carefully put together, but also vintage and quaint. They have the sweetest outdoor seating area as well with booths, and draped with Edison-style string lights. We ordered to-go and got two appetizers and three rolls and it was about $70. Definitely more food than the two of us were able to finish, but all of it was tasty. The biggest compliment I have is for the steamed dumplings with the dipping sauce. They tasted like the most authentic ones I’ve had in a long time. It feels like this restaurant really cares about their food and their service.
